Alexander Stuart
My grandmother Cathryn Alice Stuart Mitchell, was born in Shelbyville, Illinois, with her mother's family, the Keelers. Her mother was known as Kitty Keeler before marrying her father, Alexander Stuart. Grandma Mitchell had a single brother Bruce Stuart, who worked in the merchant marine, and died at a realatively young age, possibly of a drug overdose (opium?).
Alexander Stuart worked as a telegrapher for UPI, and had moved the family to Colorado during Kitty's pregnancy. It was a hard time there, and she left for home in Illinois in time to give birth in Shelbyville. Alexander returned to Shelbyville, and the family moved to Fort Wayne, where Cathryn grew up.
She said that she well remembers visiting her father's hometown, Daleville, Indiana, where her Uncle Hugh Stewart owned a soda shop, and that she could have her pick of the penny candy. She had a sweet tooth, and all her other teeth in to her nineties.
